THE IOT CONSUMING EVERYDAY LIVING…

The Internet of Things (IoT) is quite a controversial phenomenon in this modern world. However, whilst it consumes everyday living there is no denying; it certainly makes daily processes both at home and at work a whole lot easier for us, consumers.

The ever-growing presence of smart devices allows families, workplaces and friends to ‘interact and cooperate with each other to reach common goals’ (Guisto, 2010).

The IoT is with us from the moment we wake up to the moment we close our eyes to go to sleep.

‘According to HIS, In 2015, there were about 15.4 billion connected devices. This number is expected to grow to 75.4 billion by 2025.’ (IHS Market, 2018)

The growth of these connected devices has been driven through a number of key trends including; connectedness, innovation, competitiveness and security.

Smart devices are rapidly becoming the easiest way to conduct daily workouts, errands, payment methods and even paying the bills. The success of these devices, is due to their speed, accessibility, and ease of use.

Exercising: Fit Bits

These days, devices such as the ‘FitBit’ allow consumers to measure exercise, record and achieve fitness goals. The FitBit was essentially a tool used to upgrade the exercise experience and has now evolved to help individuals through all areas of their health, including the monitoring of their heart rate and sleeping patterns.

  1. Hi Ella, I feel like your defiantly onto something with these devices consuming every day life. I personally find myself checking my fitness tracking devices to see how many steps i’ve made per day. However I don’t find that i’m unhappy about it, are you? It must depend on the generation, but I can speak for myself when I say, these devices are fun and intriguing to me.
